Checked October 2026. What we say about Matillion comes from its public pricing and Maia pages. We haven't run Maia ourselves. If something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

Matillion has built data pipeline software for 15 years. It now sells Maia, which it calls "Your agentic enterprise data team", an AI agent that plans, builds, tests, runs, and fixes pipelines. OptimaFlo is a team of 7 AI roles that works next to the people you already have. Both are worth a look. They fit different teams.

What Maia does

  • Works in stages: plan, build, test, run, fix, with a person approving changes.
  • Pushes the work down into the warehouse you already use.
  • Includes a Migration Agent for moving legacy ETL jobs.
  • Comes in three editions: Developer (1 developer user), Teams (5), and Scale (5).
  • Bills in credits for pipeline task hours. Developer users beyond the included count also use credits.
  • Can be bought direct or through the AWS, Azure, and Snowflake marketplaces.

What OptimaFlo does

  • Staffs 7 roles as AI agents: Manager, Ingestion Engineer, Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, Analyst, BI Developer, and Quality Engineer.
  • Covers ingestion, modeling, dashboards, and data quality checks, not only pipelines.
  • Shows you the build plan and the SQL for each layer (Raw, Clean, Ready). You approve, edit, or reject it before it runs.
  • Runs in your own Google Cloud or AWS account, with tables stored as Apache Iceberg tables.
  • Lists its price: $50,000 a year, or $35,000 for year one for the first 10 teams through the Founding Customer program.

Where Matillion wins

  • Track record. 15 years in market and named enterprise customers with before-and-after numbers. We're newer, and the Founding Customer program is how we build ours.
  • Moving off legacy ETL. The Migration Agent is built for it. We don't have an equivalent.
  • Your warehouse. If you've standardized on a cloud warehouse and want to stay in it, Matillion works inside it.
  • Buying. You can buy through the AWS, Azure, and Snowflake marketplaces as well as direct.
  • Certifications. Matillion lists certifications on its Trust Center. OptimaFlo is not certified under SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
  • Free trial. Matillion offers a time-limited free trial of Maia.

Where OptimaFlo is the better fit

  • A price before a call. Matillion's pricing page shows no dollar amounts. Ours is on the pricing page.
  • Work beyond pipelines. Your backlog spans ingestion, modeling, dashboards, and data quality, and nobody has time for all of it.
  • Your data in your account. Tables live in your own cloud, in an open table format.
  • A small team with a big backlog. OptimaFlo adds hands. It doesn't replace the people you have.

Choose Matillion Maia if

  • You run a large data team with legacy ETL jobs to move.
  • You want to stay on your current cloud warehouse.
  • You need certifications on file today.
  • You want a long customer track record before you sign.

Choose OptimaFlo if

  • You have 3 or more live data sources and more data work than people.
  • Your work spans ingestion, modeling, dashboards, and quality.
  • You run on Google Cloud or AWS and want the tables in your own account.
  • You want the price in writing before you talk to anyone.
